Hello! I'm writing to enquire about the recent model deprecation notice for GPT 5.2 models.
Although it is an old model, for Student plans 5.2 Codex was the only selectable model in the GPT codex family for Cloud Agent (coding agent?), aside from Auto.
For harder coding tasks, can we still rely on Auto to route us to 5.3 Codex on both Cloud Agent and Visual Studio Code surfaces? I've once heard that Auto model selection mostly routes on availability, and may route challenging tasks to lightweight models like Haiku 4.5 (and have experienced this firsthand, as it removed entire features from codebases it couldn't understand. Forcing a higher tier model resolved this issue). I'd like to know if this behaviour was ever changed.
Due to recent changes in the Copilot plans, it may be difficult to respond to this question specifically. Still, if you have the capacity, I would appreciate a confirmation.
Thanks in advance!
